Surfers in Sierra Leone have calls on the government to support and recognize the surfing discipline

Surfing is a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying the surfer towards the shore. Waves suitable for surfing are primarily found in the ocean, but can also be found in lakes or rivers in the form of a standing wave or tidal bore. However, surfers can also utilize artificial waves such as those from boat wakes and the waves created in artificial wave pools. Surfing is an international sports that is not popularly known in Sierra Leone because the required equipment to play the game are not available in the country. But Young beach workers have started changing that narrative as Surfing is becoming a reality in the country. Bakayoko to miss his first call up for Leone star

The US-based  chief executive officer of Thunder Bolt football academy in Sierra Leone who is a   former defender of Eastern Lions Dede Abu, has supported friends of Attouga mini stadium football competition  with a giant gold trophy worth  hundreds of dollars as a way of promoting local   football in Sierra Leone. Dede Abu is a Sierra Leone based soccer coach in USA working for thunder soccer association in Maryland. Under this association, coach Dede is in charge of two youth soccer teams, under-ten Celtics boys and under-fourteen Boca junior youth boys. The last competitive football premier league in Sierra Leone was played in 2012 under the leadership of Victor Lewis as Chairman of the Board. The 2014 premier league under the aegis of Madam Isha Johansen ended abruptly in the first round. It was the first and last time the elite competition was organized in her five year tenure. After naming a preliminary Squad of 35 Players the Head Coach of Leone Stars John Keister has cut the squad down to Twenty three (23) players ahead of the crucial Match against the ‘Walyas’. Despite no effective league playing in the country, there were places in the squad for young FC Johansen Goalkeeper Mohamed N Kamara, and defender Abu Suma former player for FC Johansen. Lack of home football league in Sierra Leone, has not stopped the head coach of Leone Stars John Keister, from including 10 home-based talents in his 35 man provisional squad, ahead of the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) fixtures with Ethiopia, Ghana and Kenya. Sierra Leone won her first AFCON match against Kenya in Freetown, which was a big boost to kick-start the tight fixtures in September and October. In a letter dated 17th August 2018 the acting chairman of the western area football association Pastor Philip Buck said  he acted based on the powers giving to him as enshrined in the western area football association statues article 18(6) to appoint or dismiss the secretary general if the need arises. The acting Chairman Pastor Buck said he took the action of relieving Kasho Holland Cole  of his position because he want to succeed in running football in the western area of Freetown. Due to security concern the central one football association for the past two year has been playing their final at the national stadium in Freetown. But due to the rehabilitation of the national stadium the central one football association has decided to host the final in the central part of Freetown. In a bid to ensure the country's sporting facilities are suitable for the impending WAFU U-17 female competition, a team of officials from WAFU led by the scribe Jammeh  Bojan visited the country on Monday August 13 2018, to assess the country's preparedness to stage the Zone A WAFU U-17 female competition. The secretary general of WAFU Jammeh Bojan in a press conference held at the Country Lodge hotel in Freetown, August 16 2018,  he said they inspected stadium, hotel, training facilities in Bo, Makeni and Kono and found them in a satisfactory state. The Training is strategic to ensure the upgrade of Volleyball Referees and Coaches in Sierra Leone and at the same time increase the number of Volleyball Referees in the Country. The international beach volleyball Commissioner and Referee; Mohamed Benson Bawoh confirmed that it is part of their annual plan to see that they upgrade and train more people on volleyball in the country. It could be recalled that the head coach of Leones Stars John Keister  granted  an interview to the  BBC sports stringer Mohamed Fajah Barrie in which he told him that,  "lack of major football league in the country has affected his selection of players for the Leone Star national team." This statement according to the SLFA boss madam Isha Johansen was viewed as disrespectful and full of fallacies and a ploy   to present her executive in a bad manner to the international scene. 50 Sierra Leonean Referees Complete Micro Gate Technology Training

Fifty Sierra Leonean referees have completed a two-day training using micro gate, which is the standard technical equipment required for referees  trainings.  The training was organized by the Western Area Referee Association (WARA) at the national stadium in Freetown, with the aim to teach the referees and abreast them with new laws and goal line technology recently introduced to help reduce mistakes inadvertently or otherwise caused by referees across the world. The local instructor of WARA, Anabi Yusuf Kamara said the training was organized to aufait the referees with modern technology for best practice, adding that the training is also in line with the world football governing body (FIFA) transformational Statues.
