The Sierra Leone Volleyball Association (SLVA) is set for a nationwide training of Referees and Coaches ahead of the School League and Volleyball League Seasons in Sierra Leone.

The Training is strategic to ensure the upgrade of Volleyball Referees and Coaches in Sierra Leone and at the same time increase the number of Volleyball Referees in the Country.

The international beach volleyball Commissioner and Referee; Mohamed Benson Bawoh confirmed that it is part of their annual plan to see that they upgrade and train more people on volleyball in the country.

He further disclosed that this training will be organized to sharpen the skills of existing referees and recruit new breed of referees to support the School League and at the same time be ready for the volleyball league season. 

“The coaches’ course is mainly targeting physical Health Education Teachers to serve as first contact coaches for the kids in their respective schools and prepare the school Teams for the school league soon to commence” Benson emphasized.

When asked about the benefit of the training after the completion, the beach Volleyball Commissioner and Referee said they are expecting the current Referees to be up to speed ahead of the volleyball league season.

“The Beginner referees will serve as a pool of Referees which will further increase the number of quality Referees in the country and the Coaches will serve as the foundation Coaches at the respective schools across the country. The Volley Ball Association rely heavily on them to bring through players that will join the clubs and eventually the national team”. 
Commissioner Benson lamented.

The training is fully supported by the Executive of the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association which is part of their calendar of events for 2018.

He said they are expecting the coaches to take the game to their schools and communities after the Training. 
The training is expected to commence on the 20th August in Bo (Southern Region) and will continue in Kenema (East), Makeni (North) and Freetown (West).
