Sports Journalism bags two new categories in the 2018 National Entertainment Awards (NEA)
Last year’s NEA Awards to many was seen as one of the most successful annual events to be ever held in Sierra Leone, as it attracted over thousands of Sierra Leoneans from all walks-of-life, who attended the event at the prestigious Bintumani International Auditorium, at Aberdeen in Freetown.
For the first time this year LAKE annual NEA awards will have two new categories for sports journalists in the country.
The Chief Executive Officer for LAKE Production Alhaji K. Tarawally, popularly known as Laj-K confirmed to this media that they have added two spaces for sports journalists which are for Best Print Media Sports Journalist and Best Electronics Media Sports Journalist of the Year
‘We created the two spaces for sports journalists to have more opportunity in recognising their tireless service in propagating sports in the country. As sport is one of the biggest sectors in the Creative Industry," Laj-K noted.
He said that the 2017 National Entertainment Awards' Best Sports Journalist award was won by Sahr Morris Jnr. who works for Concord Times Newspaper.
He disclosed that nominations are now officially open for the favorite artistes and submission of movies for the 2nd National Entertainment Awards and will close on the 30th of September 2018.
"Our scope of assessment will cover works done by the nominees from the 1st May 2017 to the 30th September 2018, and the official categories are now out", he continued.
He encouraged sports journalists to grab the opportunity by nominating colleague sports journalist or themselves for a job well done from May 1st 2017 to September 30th 2018, when all nominations would have been closed to the public.
*This year's sports categories will be Best Sports Woman of the Year, Best Sports Man of the Year, Best Sports Personality of the Year, Best National Team of the Year, Best Print Sports Journalist of the Year and Best Electronic Sports Journalist of the Year.*
The guest of honour for this year's NEA Official Cocktail Ceremony launched at the Quincy Night Club was the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt. The event also attracted celebrities from across the creative industries - music, sports, fashion, comedy, culture, film, etc.
