Internews Selects Ten Journalists

Internews that specializes in Media Trainings has selected ten journalists through their fellowship program to work on various stories ideas outside the capital City of Freetown.
It could be recalled that on January 15th, 2020, Internews sent out a communique calling on interested journalist to apply for their fellowship program. Out of the hundreds that applied, ten were selected on January 25th, 2020, at Country Lodge in Freetown. The selection was done based on the stories and ideas submitted in a fair and transparent manner according to the Selection Committee.
Speaking on behalf of the Management Team of InterNews, Manager Arwen Kidd opined that they're excited to bring back the fellowship program for journalists which she said will serve as a platform for quality news reporting on wide range of issues including pre and post elections reports. She further stated that all the applicant did well and they received very good stories and ideas for the fellowship program but the very best were selected among many.
Arwen Kidd revealed that each of the ten selected journalists will receive the sum of Three Million Leones (Le3,000,000) as support to complete their stories idea - One Million Five Hundreds thousand Leones as first installment to start the work and the remainder upon completion.
She admonished the journalists to be mindful, responsible and treat the program with the seriousness it deserves and that they should take very good care of their working materials while on duty because they at Internews will not take responsibility for any missing item during the course of the program.
Internews Program Manager informed journalists about their post election training that will kick start in February 2020.
The ten Selectees are from the print and electronics media and will embark on different reporting stories ranging from mining, fishing, environment, gender, human right, to governance.
The ten Selectees were encouraged to have aired, published and submit their stories before February 28th, 2020.
InterNews – a member of the Consortium for Electoral and Political Process Strengthening
(CEPPS), funded by USAID – has offered a series of reporting fellowships in Sierra Leone, aimed at supporting Freetown -based journalists to produce in-depth governance-related news stories which focuses on issues and residents outside the Freetown Municipality.
