Freetown City Football Club is not for sale
By Muctar Koroma.
The Head of Media for Freetown City Council Football Club (FCFC) Abdullah Bundu, has on behalf of the Management of the Club disclosed that there are long term plans to help the club's progress and development and thus, there is no intention in selling the club in the immediate future.
Bundu’s comment follows speculation that the club is on the verge of a takeover from an unnamed buyer. He further stated that, based on what he has seen in club's progress so far, he believed they’re in for the long-term. "With regards to offers, my understanding is that there have been no discussions with any individual or institution", he continued.
Bundu accepted that there were challenges’ with the running of the club but the Management headed by the Mayor of the Freetown Municipality, Madam Yvonne Aki Sawyer have worked tremendously in sorting out these challenges in a positive way and in turn has appointed a new management team to take care of the day to day running of the club in achieving it's desired goals.
Bundu further lamented that the intervention of Mayor Madam Aki-Sawyerr as Chairperson, has contributed immensely in restructuring the Club both on and off the pitch and as well set the agenda to see the team achieved it targeted short and long term objectives.
FCFC produced probably their best performance of the season against fellow relegation strugglers FC Johansen last Thursday to register their first win of the campaign. But the result doesn’t paper over the cracks at the crisis hit club.
Freetown City Council FC are currently occupying the tenth position in the ongoing Sierra Leone Premier League Table after playing five games and registered a win, a draw and three defeats. Their next match will be at home to Kono's Diamond stars on Friday 17th January 2020 at the Siaka Stevens stadium.
