Sierra Leone premier league get it first female coach

Victoria Conteh has been appointed as the head coach of Sierra Leone premier league club East End Tigers. She's the first woman's ever to be appointed as coach to a top flight male football team in Sierra Leone. Victoria Conteh, a Confederation of Africa football (CAF) Instructor and also a holder of A-class license in football coaching. 

Coach Victoria, before her appointment was the coach of Sierra Leone U-17 women's team. She was head coach also for the Sierra Leone Police female team and part of FC. Johansen Technical team.  Coach Victoria has worked and gained experience from Ghanaian world cup winning coach Sallas Tetteh and former Leone stars coach John Kiester.

 On her unveiling to sport journalists Victoria Conteh, said she's happy to be the first woman coach to coach a male premier league club in Africa. “I am committed to work with Tigers players and it management. Football is my life” she said.  

She said her knowledge gained over the years in coaching have placed her in better place to succeed in a male-dominated sport which is football. 

Coach Victoria, revealed that are main target now is to bring results to the Tigers fans and management.

 “I'll work with all the players I have met at East End Tigers, my appointment as female coach among male coaches who have the same qualification as me  should send a strong message to other women in the Country that what men can do, women also can do” 

 Victoria Conteh nick named D’cox, was in charged of East End Tigers first match which they won. The female football tacticians will have is first taste as a official coach of Tigers on Saturday 21 December 2019, against last season league runner's-up FC. Kallon. Tigers have played just one match and won, currently occupying the fifth position in the premier league standings.

The chief executive officer (CEO) of East End Tigers Victor Lewis, congratulate Victoria Conteh and welcomed her to the Tigers family. He said Coach Victoria is a good coach and very knowledgeable about the game. 

“We have made history as the first and only male football premier league club in sub-Sahara Africa to appoint a woman as coach of elite football club in Salone and Africa,  I stand to be corrected.” 

 Victoria Conteh  has been given a two-year contract at East End Tigers. The female gaffer, is the third coach hired by East End Tigers this year's. She  was one-time a female football player for female local  club Lioness FC. 

Victoria, is the only female coach in Sierra Leone with a CAF A license certificate and instructor.

Coach Victoria Conteh, is the first woman coach in Africa to coach a professional men’s team and the second woman in the world’s to attain that height after Chan Yuen Ting.

Sierra Leone head Coach names 25 foreign-based players.

Lack of home football league in Sierra Leone, has not stopped the head coach of Leone Stars John Keister, from including 10 home-based talents in his 35 man provisional squad, ahead of the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) fixtures with Ethiopia, Ghana and Kenya. Sierra Leone won her first AFCON match against Kenya in Freetown, which was a big boost to kick-start the tight fixtures in September and October. Leone Stars head Coach John Kiester names 23 Man Squad for the AFCON qualifier against the 'Walyas' of Ethiopia

After naming a preliminary Squad of 35 Players the Head Coach of Leone Stars John Keister has cut the squad down to Twenty three (23) players ahead of the crucial Match against the ‘Walyas’. Despite no effective league playing in the country, there were places in the squad for young FC Johansen Goalkeeper Mohamed N Kamara, and defender Abu Suma former player for FC Johansen. UK trio based Alhaji Sesay who plays for Bristol City in England, Osman Kakay of Queens Park Rangers and Amadou Bakayoko of Coventry City were also named in the squad alongside long time absentee Sheka Fofanah who plays his international football for Al Nasr in the Oman professional elite league.
