Government yet to release funds for the 2019/20 Salone Premier League.

The Sierra Leone Premier League Board has on 30th November 2019 officially launched the 2019/20 football league season at the Radisson Blu hotel. 

Presenting his board plans for the premier league, the astute and dynamic league  board chairman Lawyer Aliue Vandi Koroma said he's determined to take football to another level and called on the football membership to support the growth of the game. 

He said part of their new role out plan is the introduction of man of the match award for all games to be played in the premiere  league across the country. 

The legal luminary revealed that they  have not received any money yet  from the government as support to  kick start the league but said they are hopeful to get funds from the central government.

“seventy-five million Leones have been   distributed among the fourteen premier league clubs” lawyer Vandi Koroma disclosed 

 Barrister Vandi Koroma said his board has established a website to help promote the premier league work. He further  said that  the website will serve as a source of information like match update, results, fixture and news about clubs.

 The distinguished Lawyer,  boasted that all balls used during matches in the premier league will carry the new league logo. 

The event was graced by football players, coaches, referees, administrators and journalists.   

Isha Johansen, President of the Sierra Leone football association plead  on journalists to report the positive side of the league so that the country football will gain more height and recognition around the World.

 Representative from the Ministry of Sports assured the audience of government's commitment to support the 2019/20 Salone premier league.

Sierra Leone head Coach names 25 foreign-based players.

Lack of home football league in Sierra Leone, has not stopped the head coach of Leone Stars John Keister, from including 10 home-based talents in his 35 man provisional squad, ahead of the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) fixtures with Ethiopia, Ghana and Kenya. Sierra Leone won her first AFCON match against Kenya in Freetown, which was a big boost to kick-start the tight fixtures in September and October. Leone Stars head Coach John Kiester names 23 Man Squad for the AFCON qualifier against the 'Walyas' of Ethiopia

After naming a preliminary Squad of 35 Players the Head Coach of Leone Stars John Keister has cut the squad down to Twenty three (23) players ahead of the crucial Match against the ‘Walyas’. Despite no effective league playing in the country, there were places in the squad for young FC Johansen Goalkeeper Mohamed N Kamara, and defender Abu Suma former player for FC Johansen. UK trio based Alhaji Sesay who plays for Bristol City in England, Osman Kakay of Queens Park Rangers and Amadou Bakayoko of Coventry City were also named in the squad alongside long time absentee Sheka Fofanah who plays his international football for Al Nasr in the Oman professional elite league.
