SIERRA LEONE REFEREE IN BRIBERY SCANDAL
In a documentary done by Ghanaian investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas several FIFA and confederation of Africa football (CAF) referees have been implicated for taking cash before officiating football matches in Africa.
In a list released by tigereye fifteen (15) referees are named in the bribery scandal.
Among the fifteen names, FIFA accredited referee, Sierra Leone's Billy Konneh has been mentioned for collecting five hundred dollars (500 $) from fake football agents to officiate in favor of their team in the 2017 West Africa football Union (WAFU) tournament in Ghana.
Billy Konneh was a certified FIFA and CAF assistant referee who participated in the 2017 WAFU tournament and several CAF champion league matches.
Billy Konneh is a renown former FIFA assistant referee in Sierra Leone who retired from refereeing in 2017.
Referee Konneh hails from the southern city of Bo Sierra Leone. He was an assistant referee for the match between Mali and Burkina Faso at the WAFU tournament.
The behaviour of the former FIFA and CAF referee is seen by many Sierra Leoneans as a shame to refereeing in the country.
The confederation of Africa football has suspended all fifteen (15) referees after the video which shows referees taking monies was made available to them.
